As we approach the end of Mental Health Awareness Week it feels like a good time to raise awareness about something I see frequently in my practice, namely the issues faced by LGBT people. The results of a survey carried out by the Trades Union Congress and published today, show that more than two thirds of LGBT respondents report being sexually harassed in the workplace. 66% of respondents did not report the harassment because they were worried about being outed at work. Employers are starting to work harder to tackle these problems but surely it is up to all of us, whatever our gender or sexual preference to promote safe and inclusive workplaces for everyone. Today is International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. I look forward to a time when we won't need 'days' like this because we will be living in a truly equal and inclusive society.
